Illustration Friday: Song, Part I

I did some drawings awhile back based on various musical forms, using people and fruits or vegetables to express something about the particular musical form I was illustrating. So, I got a lot of blank stares, but am finally finding some people who understand them, which is as fantastic as it is scary. This piece is called Dirge, which is a sort of funeral march. It contains a fairly grumpy woman and a slice of a blood orange. I felt in my mind that she was rather ticked off that her husband of 52 years had left at a most inopportune time, as he often did, although this time permanently. I believe she was still berating him on the way home from the graveside. To all things there is a limit.

Way cool, great juxtaposition. Can most definitely see where you are coming from with this piece and the series.

I love how she's off-center. I feel like the joke is on her, and we're in on the joke, tho I'm not sure what the joke was.
lovely illustration!

She hadn't planned it that way. It was most inconsiderate of him to... to ...
But consideration for the feelings of others was never his strong suit. He was quite anti-social, really.

Best regards, Neil

She looks like she's seething,if you pricked her with a pin, would she have felt it. the blood orange does her emotional state justice I think.

The illustration is stunning.

The connection... I must be dense, but, who's singing? Or, where's the song? Blood Orange Dirge played by the Citric Acid Pipers?

:)

Very nice! I love the contrast between the black and white drawing of the woman, and the vivid orange/reds of the blood orange.

Hey, Natalie. These are awesome. Especially love the "Rainy days" and the the chick with the spoon halo. You've got to be the most prolific artist I know. I'm going to sign up for the illustration friday, but I have no idea how you find the time...
